The Security Operations Division is responsible for providing technical support, communications services and physical security initiatives for all AUPD divisions. One of the most essential functions of the Security Operations Division is the operation of the newly formed Real-Time Information Center. The RTIC supports AUPD and the Â鶹AV Community. The transition from a traditional communications center to a centralized operations center required significant investments and commitment from staff, leadership and the community.
In addition to the RTIC, the Police Security Operations Division consists of the Special Projects Manager, contracted security personnel, and a close relationship with the IT Physical Security team. With the division’s formation, it has empowered the team to deliver innovative security solutions, comprised of modern and traditional tools to help protect the university community.
Real-Time Information Center (RTIC)
As a result of a federal COPS grant funding, AUPD transitioned the former Communications Center to a real-time information center which assists the Patrol division and other department units with advanced intelligence and investigative resources. This nationally recognized concept delivers in-depth information in real time as emergencies, and other events are unfolding, through the use advanced technology, analytics, open and closed source data, and traditional tools.
Projects for the RTIC development included the installation of new desks and furniture, the addition of license plate reader cameras, the installation of a surveillance video wall, the expansion of the surveillance cameras to approximately 1500, along with advanced camera analytics, new roof mounted radio antennas, and software to allow RTIC staff to remotely secure doors on campus.
This gives AUPD critical, time-sensitive information to deliver solutions and mitigate dangers quickly. The RTIC is staffed by Communications Center personnel and is supported by other real-time crime centers in the August area, including the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office, Columbia County Sheriff’s Office and GBI.
The RTIC is led by Robin Daniel who is supported by two Lead Communications Service Officers, and nine Communications Service Officers (CSOs). AUPD CSOs are state certified Communications Officers. The RTIC is responsible for receiving emergency and non-emergency calls for service, dispatching emergency and security personnel, monitoring the RAVE Guardian app, receiving burglary, fire, and panic alarms, and initiating Jag Alerts.
The RTIC provides information to AU students, staff, faculty, and visitors, and coordinates aid with other law enforcement agencies. During the 2025 calendar year, RTIC Staff processed approximately 63,177 CAD (Computer Aided Dispatch) entries.
Special Projects
The Special Projects program is led by Lieutenant Michael Rollins, who researches and implements options to address technological advancements that not only provide resources to the Â鶹AV community but also ensures documentation and accountability of our actions. LT Rollins is a technology expert within AUPD helping the leadership team leverage 21st century technology and secured the following initiatives in 2025:
- Led the integration of GCIC/NCIC functionality with AUPD’s CAD & RMS platform.
- Kicked off projects to digitally transform internal AUPD business processes:
- AUPD technology and proprietary software support
- Systems documentation libraries
- Internal Project Management
- Led the installation of new furniture and remodel of the RTIC.
IT Physical Security
The IT Physical Security Team is led by Manager, Gary Johnson. Gary has 34 years of law enforcement experience and has served with Â鶹AV since 2019. The IT Physical Security Team operates as an extension of the AU IT Department and serves the Security Operations Division as their primary customer. The IT Physical Security Team is responsible for electronic access control, AU’s surveillance infrastructure, emergency blue phones, key control, Jag Card issuance as well as other security platforms that are part of the AU network.
Contracted Security Services
The Security Operations Division manages contracted security services, rendered by Sizemore, Inc. Sizemore, Inc., currently staffs eighteen positions across Â鶹AV University’s various campuses, including in housing, the Greenblatt and Reese libraries, Dental College of Georgia, Education Commons, Georgia Cyber Innovation & Training Center, and many more. Each guard is equipped with a mobile radio and communicates directly with the RTIC.
