Earn the Certificate of Leadership
Admissions Requirements
The Certificate of Leadership (COL) is a nine to twelve credit hour program open to all Â鶹AV undergraduate students. The program consists of nine required credit hours of core courses and one to three credit hours of an optional internship. Prospective students must consult with the Certificate of Leadership advisor before initiating the COL enrollment process.
Enrollment in the COL is required to earn the certificate; students will not be enrolled in the COL by simply taking INQR/LDRS courses.
In accordance with Â鶹AV record policies, certificate programs require submission of a digital record update form from either the COL advisor or undergraduate academic advisor to the Registrar's Office, on behalf of the student, prior to the completion of LDRS 2000 (grades posting for the course). Students must submit the form by the end of the semester in which they are enrolled in LDRS 2000, allowing for processing time. Forms completed in the current term will be processed and made visible in JagTrax in the following term (i.e: If students take LDRS 2000 and also submit the record update form in the spring 2026 term, the COL will be visible in JagTrax at the start of the summer 2026 term).
Please note! Certificate applications received after completion of two courses (INQR 1000 & LDRS 2000) in the certificate will be denied.
Completion Process
Students must complete all certificate courses with a C of better and maintain a cumultive 2.0 GPA in all certificate coursework.
All COL students must complete a certificate application for graduation. The COL certificate applications are due by the midterm before the students' anticipated semester of graduation (i.e: If the student is graduating in Spring 2027, a certificate application is due by the midterm of Fall 2026). Students must complete the certificate application just like they would a graduation application. This form must be routed to the COL advisor and director for signatures. Once the form is signed, the COL advisor will send the form to the Registrar's Office for processing.
It is the student's responsibility to check their AU email and follow up with the Registrar's Office for confirmation that the form has been processed for graduation.
Program Requirements
The Certificate of Leadership requires 9-12 hours of approved course work with a C or better.
This course introduces the concepts and relationships between leadership, engagement, teamwork, and professionalism. Through a variety of readings, experiences, and assignments, the course fosters successful leadership competencies. It develops students who think critically, implement creative problem solving, communicate and collaborate effectively, synthesize skills from multiple aspects and sources, be trusted with responsibility, respond constructively to feedback from peers and professors, and inspire others to work together towards common goals (for example: the Caring Community Project).
