Block 4

Clinical Experience Block 4 

The PCL Clinical Experience includes: Telemedicine Patient Experience Session, Clinical Procedures Session, and Ultrasound Session. 

Schedule of the Day

1:00 - 3:00PM

Telemedicine Encounters (1:00 or 2:00 start) 

  • The interviewer will be conducting the encounter while the scribe observes
  • All visits with real patients will be done in EPIC.
  • Complete the (interviewer) with a faculty member during your debrief session 
  • Complete (EVERYONE)>

       

 Clinical Procedures (1:00 or 2:00 start) 

  • Students will be practicing obtaining IV and IO access on task trainers.

3:00 - 4:30PM

Knee Ultrasound

  • You will be obtaining MSK ultrasound images of the knee on your M1 partner- quadriceps femoris tendon, patella tendon, medial collateral ligament, and lateral collateral ligament. 
  • Pull up the prior to scanning. This will contain example images and videos on how to obtain the ultrasound images of the knee. 
  • your partner prior to obtaining images. SPs are available to be scanned as well.
  • Have your images reviewed by a faculty member and submit the debrief survey prior to leaving clinic. *Faculty must watch you obtain 1 of your 4 images.*
  • the patella tendon image to yourself for your block 4 post-quiz in D2L.

   

 

Telemedicine Patient Encounter

PREWORK

  • For those who have seen their patient before review your patient's medical history from your prior notes and prepare a tentative plan for your telehealth visit. For those seeing a new patient develop a plan for an initial encounter with a patient when unable to review chart information.
  • Review the SP patient information in case your patient does not show.
  • Watch basic  

POSTWORK

  • Recorders must complete your patient's note by 5:00 PM the day after your patient encounter and sign/submit your note to Clinical Experience Preceptor. This must be done through EPIC.  Please review if you are unsure how to submit your note through EPIC. >
  • If you have an SP encounter you should send your note via email to your Clinical Experience Preceptor and copy your partner. 
  • CHANGE: EVERYONE (interviewer and recorder) must fill out .   Completion of this survey is required for all telemedicine visits, regardless of whether the encounter was with a real patient or a standardized patient. 
    • Interviewer – may submit survey at any time.>
    • – submit the survey after your note has been sent to your Clinical Experience Preceptor to receive documentation feedback.

  • Students will be scanning the knee on their PCE partner/colleague. Please make sure you review the images required prior to your PCE day and complete the attestation to serve as a student ultrasound volunteer in your pre-quiz.
