Ā鶹AV's College of Education and Human Development proudly presents Kids University, a dynamic and enriching experience designed to ignite your child's imagination and foster a love of learning.

Kids University is an affordable, high-quality summer camp designed to nurture children's humanity through a variety of enrichment classes that are often not available in traditional school settings. Hosted by the College of Education and Human Development at Ā鶹AV University, the camp aims to serve about one hundred K-8 children in our local community each summer. Registration begins in March and will close once we reach maximum capacity.

Kids University serves students from kindergarten through eighth grade (K-8). For enrollment, children must qualify for kindergarten or a higher grade for the following school year.

For children in kindergarten through eighth grade, our camp offers flexible full-day and half-day options, allowing you to choose the schedule that best suits your family's needs.

Available Classes in 2026

We offer a variety of classes for children, all taught by highly qualified instructors. They will rotate to a different class each hour. Activities vary each day and week. Instructors will tailor activities and support based on students' age, grade level, and abilities. The average cost per hour is between $5.88 (full-day-rate) and $6.25 (half-day-rate), which includes all materials. Each class is led by one instructor and one teaching assistant. Camp supervision ratio: 1:6 (4-5 years old), 1:8 (6-8 years old), 1:10 (9-14 years old).
 
Registration is risk-free. If a child's schedule changes, parents can request a full refund by April 30, 2027. If cancellation is requested after April 30, 2027, no refund will be given.
 

Sports Activities & Games

This course engages kids in fun physical activities and mindfulness practices, promoting physical and mental health. The course fosters students to be inquirers, thinkers, communicators, and balanced individuals, developing healthy habits for overall well-being.

Empowering Young Minds Through Reading

Reading at Kids University is a class that engages in effective reading practices with joyful, projectā€‘based learning and culturally rich literature to maintain and accelerate reading growth over summer while keeping learners engaged and confident. Interactive readā€‘alouds and story drama that bring diverse authors, characters, and perspectives to life. Handsā€‘on literacy labs: phonics games, word-building stations, maker projects, sensory activities.Smallā€‘group guided reading tailored to skill level, plus independent reading time that offers choice time with leveled book baskets, graphic novels, poetry, and culturally relevant texts.

Math Makers & Brain Breakers

Students from Preschool to 8th grade become ā€œMath Makersā€ as they build, create, and explore with numbers. Kā€“1 students will explore hands-on counting, shapes, and simple games. Grades 2ā€“3 will solve puzzles, build patterns, and practice early problem-solving. Grades 4ā€“5 will engage in multi-step tasks, logic games, and real-world scenarios. Grades 6ā€“8 will tackle advanced challenges, strategy-based games, and collaborative STEM projects. Each level will allow students to grow at an appropriate pace while still enjoying the same overall theme.

Get Reptile SMART! (science, math, art, reading time)

Each week, camp scholars will learn about some of the worldā€™s most incredible reptiles, all while strengthening appropriate grade-level skills. The goal is to grow science vocabulary, infuse math and writing, and engage students through crafts, music, and movement. Scholars will learn all about reptile habitats, unique adaptations, and amazing facts that will have them rattling about reptiles!

Traveling the World

Students will explore four countries through handsā€‘on activities that highlight each nationā€™s culture, food, traditions, and daily life. Through maps, foodā€‘tasting demonstrations (or recipe previews), traditional games, and miniā€‘projects on travel and lifestyles, learners will practice geography, compare cultural traditions, and create a travel guide that showcases each country's unique features. The course emphasizes curiosity, respect, and global awareness.

STEM Activities for Kids

This STEM course engages K-8 students in science, technology, engineering, and math through dynamic, hands-on projects. Students develop critical thinking, problem-solving skills, and effective collaboration. Each grade level features tailored activities that enable all students to address real-world challenges creatively.

Paper Cutting: The Beauty of Symmetry

Students in this course will explore the art of Chinese traditional paper cutting. Students will be exposed to the beauty of symmetry and create designs using only paper and scissors. Through engaging, hands-on activities, students will create intricate art patterns and develop creativity, fine motor skills, and cultural appreciation.

Writing Innovation

Students will embark on exciting writing adventures that spark imagination and strengthen literacy skills. Through storytelling, poetry, and creative journaling, children from Pre-K to 8th grade will learn to express their ideas clearly and confidently while exploring different genres and publishing their own mini masterpieces.

Music Across the Decades

This course will introduce and/or expand upon studentsā€™ knowledge and understanding of how to read and comprehend the language of music through studies in music from different decades. Each week, we will explore a new decade of music across the 1960s, 1970s, 1980s, and 1990s. The students will be introduced to music their parents and grandparents love, as well as some popular tunes that have been sampled in the music they hear on the radio today. We will be utilizing various rhythmic and tonic instruments, body percussion, dance movements, interactive games, and other engaging activities.

Drama and Acting

Imagine, Create, and Express! This course invites students to discover the world of drama through expressive movement, storytelling, and imagination. They will explore emotions, create original stories, and use crafts, music, and dance to bring characters to life. Through fun activities, kids will build confidence and unleash their creativity!

Art Adventure

Children will have a blast as they explore their creative side, develop new skills, knowledge, and ideas using a variety of materials and techniques to create one-of-a-kind masterpieces! Projects integrate cultural, contemporary, and art history, as well as literature, and are designed to teach campers fundamental art skills while encouraging each student to express their creative spirit.

Art: Resist & Reveal

In this hands-on summer art course, young artists will experiment with ā€˜resistā€™ methods that use everyday materials to create expressive artworks. Students will build creative skills and create one-of-kind artworks theyā€™ll be proud to share. Younger students (Kā€“2) will use oil pastels or crayons with watercolor paints for simple resist effects. Students in grades 3ā€“5 work with painterā€™s tape and basic stampā€‘making to create geometric patterns and designs. Older students in grades 6ā€“8 focus on glue resist and alcohol resist techniques, which require higher levels of dexterity, patience, and craftsmanship.

Spanish Language & Culture

This course introduces students to Spanish-speaking cultures through music, dance, videos, and crafts. Lessons are designed for all grade levels and include age-appropriate activities that build cultural awareness. Younger students will enjoy songs, movement, crafts, and basic Spanish language practice, while older students will engage in conversation, reading, discussion, and cultural projects.

Digital Citizens

This course helps students become good digital citizens. K-1 students learn to balance online and offline activities and practice online safety. Grades 2-3 learn about digital citizenship and taking responsibility for themselves and their communities. Grades 4-5 explore healthy media choices and balance. Grades 6-8 develop strategies for finding media balance and responding when cyberbullying occurs. This is a substitute course, taught by the program directors, when Kids University instructors are absent due to emergencies or illness.

Required Training

Childrenā€™s safety is our top priority at Kids University. Therefore, all instructors, teacher assistants, staff, and administrators are mandated to complete minor on-campus training before working with children.

Does Kids University provide food to my children during the summer camp?

Due to childrenā€™s varying allergies, Kids University does not provide food. Parents or guardians are responsible for preparing food for their children, including snacks, beverages, and lunch.

My children have special needs. Are they eligible for Kids University?

Yes. Kids University is an inclusive and welcoming learning environment for all children. Our instructor team involves certified teachers in general and special education across grade levels.

Is there a discount for the children of Ā鶹AV employees?

No. We do not have a discount for the children of Ā鶹AV employees because we have tried to keep the cost to the lowest for all parents.

Is there a sibling discount available?

We do not offer a sibling discount, but we will strive to keep the cost as low as possible for all parents.

Where should I drop off and pick up my children?

Please drop off and pick up your child at University Hall 2500 Walton Way Ā鶹AV, GA 30904. Room details to be announced.
