Regular activities for children and young people
Mondays
3.45pm to 4.45pm, Zoo Tails, second Monday of the month. Join staff from Edinburgh Zoo for a monthly storytime and activity all about the amazing life inside Edinburgh Zoo.
4 to 5pm, Tween Book Group. A group for coming together to read stories and activities. We primarily read graphic novels. No advance reading required! For ages 10+
5 to 6pm, Teen Book Group, a fortnightly group for teens reading and sharing stories together. No need to read in advance. Ages 13+
Tuesdays
3.30 to 4.30pm, Library Lab – Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths based activities (building, Lego, designing and more!) for children aged 6+
Wednesdays
4 to 5pm, Homework Club, a weekly group to come and get some help with your homework, or just a friendly space to study with support from a member of library staff, refreshments provided! For 10+
Fridays
11am, PEEP Learning Together – a group for parents and babies under 18 months supporting children’s early development. Supported by Homelink Scotland. Contact Angela.s@homelinkfamilysupport.org
3pm, Crochet Club – for all ages! Come along and pick up a hook to try your hand at crocheting.
Saturdays
11am, Brunch Club – come tuck in and share some delicious breakfast-time snacks to set you up for your Saturday. For all the family!
2pm, Arts and Crafts – an opportunity for families to have fun and craft to their hearts' content. Prepare to get messy! For children of all ages.
Mondays
11am, Coffee Morning – come join us for a blether and a nice cup of tea.
11am, Quilting Group, fortnightly - come along to our Lend and Mend hub to make use of our resources and materials for quilting, beginners and experienced quilters welcome and support of a volunteer is available.
6pm, Lend and Mend group – pop in to use our sewing machines in the Lend and Mend Space. This group is for those with a little bit of experience although staff will be available to help out with projects. Please contact us to let us know if you are interested in coming along.
Tuesdays
10am to 5pm, Citizens Advice session, fortnightly. Come meet our helpful Citizens Advice advisor to discuss any issues with benefits, welfare advice or legal issues. Appointments available to book on the day.
11am, Library Link, fortnightly - a service for those who are less able to get to the library on their own. Contact the library for more details.
2pm, ACE IT support for over 50s with using laptops, tablets or phones. Contact ACE IT directly to book 0131 667 2053.
Wednesdays
2 to 4pm, Knit and Natter – a cheerful and friendly group. Knitters and other handmade crafters of all abilities welcome to join us for tea, coffee and biscuits.
6pm, Zine Club, first Wednesday of the month - a relaxed creative group. Bring your own projects for collaging or use our resources to create your own Zines or collaged artwork.
Thursdays
2pm, Lend and Mend group – pop in to use our sewing machines in the Lend and Mend Space. This group is for those with a little bit of experience although there is a tutor to help out with any projects. Please contact us to let us know if you are interested in coming along.
Fridays
11am, Coffee Morning – come join us for a blether and a nice cup of tea.

Wednesday
6pm, Bring Your Own Book, fortnightly. A friendly relaxed book group with no requirement to read a specific text. Bring along what you’re currently reading or discuss your TBR!

Wester Hailes Library is placed at the heart of the community right next to the Westside Plaza Shopping Centre and Âé¶¹AV’s South West Local Office building.

Music Instrument Library
In partnership with Tinderbox Orchestra, members of Wester Hailes Library of all ages can borrow musical instruments for free, just like you borrow a book. We have a wide range of instruments including saxophones, trombones, clarinets, flutes, keyboards, accordions, guitars, ukuleles, violins and cellos.
All our instruments have been donated by our community. If you have an instrument gathering dust, please consider donating it to us.
Lend and Mend Library
Supported by the Scottish Library and Information Council and the John Lewis Circular Future Fund, Wester Hailes is home to one of 9 Lend and Mend Libraries across Scotland. The space has a number of sewing, haberdashery and fabric mending resources including 6 sewing machines which can be booked for use in the library, an overlocker and an embroidery machine. If you would like an induction to the facilities available please contact us to arrange a time to visit. The space is available to use for your own projects as well as during our designated drop in times. Mondays at 6pm and Thursdays at 2pm (please contact us if you would like to come along for the first time.) During school holidays we also provide sewing classes for children and teens.
